Battambang, KH – Rachanny has the confidence to mentor – 16 Dec 2015
Rachanny is an exceptional mentor and role model for her younger roommate, encouraging her to study and tutoring her when she needs help with homework. As Children’s Future Independent Living students, they live together in an apartment in the town of Battambang near to other Children’s Future students.
In the past year, Rachanny has worked hard to develop her English skills, and is now one of Children’s Future’s best English language students. She spends a lot of time studying, both in her classes and during her free time. She shares that the teachers’ openness to her and the support she receives from the School Manager have built her confidence and helped her learn more. Rachanny is also well-respected among her peers for her leadership skills, and she has many opportunities to display these skills as a facilitator of the weekend soccer program and a leader of the journalism club.
Rachanny has had to overcome a lot in order to accomplish these things. When she met Children’s Future’s team several years ago, both of her parents had passed away. She was living in an unsafe home and working as a garbage sorter to support herself and her younger siblings. Today, she has grown into a confident young woman with strong academic abilities. She knows that this will serve her well as she pursues her goal of becoming a lawyer to help poor people in Cambodia defend their land rights.
