Battambang, KH – Garden qualifies family for loan – 20 Sep 2014
My name is Mrs MY. I have nine children, but the fifth one passed away. I have two children and one grandson who are studying at Children’s Future International (CFI).
My family is so poor, and our life is difficult. We did not really have enough food to eat before. We did not have any source of income except for my husband going fishing, but the river is too high sometimes and he could not catch anything. My family now has much more food, because of the garden in my home and Children’s Future International’s (CFI) support. CFI and the Healthy Life Improvement garden shop taught me how to plant and grow the garden, and which vegetables I should plant at my house. The garden qualified us for a livestock loan, so we are also raising animals; we have five pigs now. We keep raising baby pigs and then selling them to make a profit, and then we use that profit to buy more pigs and other animals like chickens and ducks.
Rey and Jenny helped us so much; without them and their NGOs’ support, we would be migrating to Thailand our life would be very unstable. Now my children have the chance to study and we can stay at home and help raise them.
The garden shop has also supported us with money to build a toilet. We would like to pay back the money that the shop gave us so that it can help another family too. Rey always told us in the beginning “food always at home,” which means that the food comes from our home and we always have enough food to feed our family.
