Utete, TZ – Egg group overcomes chicken sickness – 23 Apr 2014
The past month was challenging for the Bates Chicken Banda Group as they began paying off the loan they received to buy their chickens.
The rainy season brought a dramatic change in weather that caused some of the chickens to get sick and become less productive. Average production was about 45 eggs per day which brought in lower revenues for the month. After spending money on food and medicines and repaying their loan, the group was left with very little income for the month. However, they are happy to be able to make their repayments even during a slow month and the chickens are already increasing production back to around 60 eggs per day as the rains pass. This additional revenue should generate more income for them since their food and medicine expenses should stay the same.
