Battambang, KH – Fattened pig sales results in profit for MYB family – 9 Dec 2016
MYB and her husband earned US$370 from selling two pigs at the market. They used the profit to: reinvest in piglets, put corrugated iron sheets on the roof of their house and to purchase school supplies for their two children.
The MYB family received a loan to purchase two piglets to fatten in May 2016. They fattened the piglets for six months by feeding them a mix of cooked rice, rice bran and local vegetables, until they reached a combined weight of 180kg. They were able to fetch US$3 per kg for the fattened pigs, netting them US$370 after repaying the loan!
The family faced challenges with flooding near their house and were forced to totally replant their organic vegetable garden once the rain stopped.
It is MYB’s dream for their children to graduate from high school. They hope to be able to earn enough money to pay the school fees in order to fulfill this objective.t
