Battambang, KH – First major school award received in the family – 30 Aug 2018

CC and his wife SM are such proud grand-parents because two of their grandchildren have received school award certificates. One award is for coming fourth in class. They are so happy for their achievements because the fourth in class is the first annual school award received by anyone in their family, and they have been working so very hard to earn money to pay for their grand-children’s school expenses.

The grandparents are bringing up three children, while their parents are away earning money to support the family. Srey Nearng is 9 years old and in grade three and Srey Ny is 8 years old in grade two at school.

The fourth in class award means that the school will give Srey Nearng some education material, like a book or school bag; however, the greatest benefit is that she will be recognized and respected in the school by teachers and the school committee. THis means that she will be given opportunities to participate in school activities like reading competitions, which will help her to get stronger academically so that the school commitee may consider her for scholarships when she graduates to go to to high school.

To date, her main academic challenge has been attending after school study classes that are very important for her success. The family cannot afford these classes, so she has worked for the right to attend them by assisting her teacher in the classroom. she has been doing things like collecting the books and writing on the blackboard.

Earning the access to after school classes and also the possibility of a future scholarship is a marvel. Perhaps one that will enable her to realize her dream to one day become a teacher.
