Moshi, TZ – Trinity School Jumpstarts Kahe Primary School’s Path to Self-Reliance – 30 Jul 2018
16 students, 2 teachers, and 1 True Adventure leader from Trinity School spent 3 days working with Tupendane and Kahe Primary School to develop the school’s organic vegetable and banana gardens. “This group is awesome!” praised Tupendane Manager Deo. He appreciated the group’s hard work and couldn’t believe how much they accomplished in just 3 working days. The group’s accomplishments included:
- 88 banana trees planted
- 3 organic vegetable gardens built
- 6 compost piles constructed
- 30 moringa trees planted
- Fence built at school garden
Kahe Primary School is just beginning to develop its Self-Reliant School Breakfast Farm. Trinity’s support gave the school a big momentum and enthusiasm boost. Students, teachers, and Task Force committee members could see their hard work organizing for the group pay off because of all the group accomplished. “This group really formed a relationship the local community,” observed Deo.
Deo is confident that this energy boost will help the school continue to develop its farm and garden. The next step for Kahe Primary School is to meet Tupendane’s harvest targets and to install water distribution infrastructure to make garden maintenance easy, enjoyable, effective, and efficient.
If Kahe Primary School can meet its 2018 goals, it will be eligible to begin developing a staple crop farm with Tupendane in 2019. The ultimate goal of the program is to ensure every student gets a meal at school every day of the school year. Tupendane has already seen how important this goal is. Schools that can provide a daily meal consistently rank at the top of the district. Now the challenge is helping schools do this in a sustainable way without need for outside charity.
