Siem Reap, KH – Family builds water well for their home – 25 Nov 2016

WMT's son pumping water from their wellWeun and his wife have made improvements to their home that include a water well, solar panel and kitchen. The water well provides drinking and irrigation water, and the solar panel provides enough electricity for two LED lamps in the evenings. Adding the kitchen has enabled them to store and cook food away from where they sleep.

The family were able to save money for these home improvements because they harvest much of their food from their a productive organic vegetable garden.

Weun and his wife are determined that their three young children will have a better home than they did.  They want to provide them with a home that is safe, secure and healthy. Weun grew up in very poor living conditions, which he believes contributed to the health and learning challenges he faced early in his life.

They still face challenges with their well in the dry season, sometimes struggling to pump enough water for their home and garden use. Weun would like to dig the well deeper so that this is no longer an issue.

Weun and his wife dream of being able to send their children to school for a good education. They are also planning to improve the walls in their home by replacing the palm leaves with hardwood so that they have better protection from the rain.
