Battambang, KH – NSV sells pigs for large profit – 14 Oct 2016
The NSV family earned US$400 net income from selling four pigs at their local market. They were able to fetch a good price because of it being Cambodia’s second biggest religious holiday; Pchun Ben.
NSV procured a loan from the Healthy Life Garden shop to fatten two piglets and they managed to purchase an additional two piglets from savings from his and his wife’s housekeeping salary. They sold the pigs for a total of US$820 and after repaying their loan and expenses they received US$223 which they spent on their three children’s school fees and materials to build a cow shed.
It took them seven months to fatten the piglets to the right size because they couldn’t afford to buy commercial pig feed and instead used waste from their organic vegetable garden, bananas and rice bran.
The family plan to buy additional piglets to fatten and they dream of buying a cow and a small piece of land to expand their livestock and improve their income.
