Kilimanjaro, TZ – MGA family garden – 24 Sep 2013

The MGA family continue to be proactive in taking care of their garden. As soon as they planted their relay beds they put sticks next to all of the seedlings, as a result of one suggestion for dealing with cut worms. The Lishe Bora garden shop will monitor the success of this strategy over the next couple of weeks.

The shop are really hoping this is an effective solution. The program as a whole will benefit no matter what from the learning. Once the chili spray is prepared the team will bring it to the MGA’s as well to apply to the seedlings.

The family are most interested in talking about water when it comes to discussing problems. The Lishe Bora team are making it a priority but couldn’t make any guarantees to the families about a timeline for a solution. In the meantime, once the Toyo is working Lishe Bora will help deliver water to them once or twice per week. Mary insisted that they continue to pay for the water to be brought as usual, and they use the extra water to apply to the garden.

Another problem they identified is that the same fungus that showed up on the Lishe Bora’s zucchini plants is just started on the MGA’s zucchini. Unfortunately, we at Lishe Bora were not able to keep ours under control. The zucchini plants are just about dead because of it. The family are already producing zucchinis and it should be a very productive crop for them. The shop will deliver the garlic-based fungicide as soon as possible.
