Rey shares memories from his first trip to Tanzania!
Rey Diaz, Better Lives’ organic farming lead, traveled to Tanzania in December 2012 to share knowledge and best practices with Better Lives’ partners in Tanzania. He shares some of his favorite memories from the trip:
What do you remember most from that trip?
Arguably my highlight of my trip to Tanzania is the wild life. The adventurous way to enjoy the diversity of wildlife, beautiful scenery and unique culture. I saw magnificent animals like lions, elephants, rhinoceros, and leopards in their natural environment. The country itself is beautiful. I didn’t expect it to be so green and tropical. Mount Kilimanjaro makes the landscape quite rugged but aesthetically astonishing.
I will also always remember the people and the food! The people in the villages are definitely one of the best things about Tanzania. The food is great, I have to admit I was worried about food but in general it’s healthy and balanced. The grilled goat meat and grilled banana and tasty tomatoes were favorite!
What was the biggest challenge you felt on that trip?
The hardest thing was to return back to Cambodia. I loved the cool weather in Moshi and I wish I would just stay. Second was the long away trip from Cambodia. Even though I loved Tanzania I was still missing everyone in Cambodia.
What do you think is the most important lesson you taught in Tanzania?
To be able to pass the knowledge of growing your own food and learning to be able to earn an income.
